What each one lets you do
The Series 7 (FINRA, sponsor required) qualifies you to sell most securities for a broker-dealer. The Series 66 (NASAA) adds state agent registration and IAR registration. It is a common combination for advisors at wirehouses and hybrid firms. The 66 requires the Series 7 as a co-requisite for registration.
Which should you take?

Frequently asked questions
What order should I take the Series 7 and 66?
Most people take the SIE, then the Series 7, then the 66, because the 66 assumes Series 7 product knowledge. NASAA does not require the 7 first to sit for the 66.
Is the Series 7 and 66 enough to be a financial advisor?
For most dual-registered roles, yes, plus any state or insurance licenses your firm requires.
