Who needs the Series 66
Who needs it: reps who want to be both a broker-dealer agent and an investment adviser representative. The 66 qualifies you as if you had passed both the Series 63 and the Series 65, in one sitting instead of two.
Where the weight is: laws, regulations and ethics are 45% of the exam, much heavier than on the 65, because the 66 assumes the Series 7 already covered the product detail.

How to register and schedule
- Enroll through a firm or via TESS
NASAA allows unsponsored enrollment through FINRA’s Test Enrollment Services System.
- Pay the $177 fee
Confirm on FINRA’s Series 66 page.
- Schedule within 120 days
Prometric test center; online only by NASAA accommodation.
- Sit the exam
110 questions (100 scored + 10 unscored), 150 minutes. Pass = 73 of 100.
- Register with SIE + Series 7 in place
Registration requires a valid SIE and Series 7 at the time you register.
NASAA rule (Series 63/65/66): wait 30 days before a second attempt, 30 days before a third, and 180 days before later attempts within a two-year period. From January 4, 2027 the wait after a third failure drops to 60 days (announced by NASAA on August 10, 2026). The first two 30-day waits are unchanged.

Yes, NASAA describes the Series 66 as qualifying you as if you passed both the Series 63 and Series 65, provided you also hold the Series 7.
Can I take the Series 66 online?
Only by accommodation. NASAA exams are delivered at Prometric test centers.
